GILMORE GIRLS

Gilmore Girls has pretty much gone the way of a certain other show that hasn't gotten much love from me lately, but since GG has been on hiatus for, like, ever, I'm just going to rant about...*cough*...discuss...the general storylines for the last part of the season in honor of the new GG next week. And before I go too crazy...the synopsis breakdown for the rest of the season actually doesn't look that bad...if you're not a huge Luke/Lorelai fan.

The difference in Grey's and Gilmore Girls is that the creative risks that Amy Sherman-Palladino is taking aren't as risky because its a well anchored show. Grey's doesn't have that well defined fanbase because its only been on for a year. ASP has 5 years of giving me what I want that I'm not going to stop watching in year 6 just because she does something I don't like. Grey's on the other hand, I will, because its barely been around for a season. JJ Abrams took one after two years and we all know that didn't end well. You establish your work and your fanbase, then do what you want. Which is what ASP has done, so I'll gripe about it, but I can't really fault her for it, because as much as fans complain, I guarantee they won't stop watching. Grey's fans on the other hand, already have.

Okay, obviously, like most outraged GG lovers, I don't so much care for the "Luke has a daughter" storyline. I mean, its just so cliche. I remember the preview the week before we found that out, and we actually joked that he had a daughter, and we were like nah, GG is so above that. Well, I guess not. I'll trust her though, she always goes somewhere, so whatever. What bothers me more about Luke/Lorelai lately is the distance. Okay, I should preface with the fact that I'm not a huge Luke/Lorelai fan. I don't not like them, I've just never been sure if I wanted Lorelai with Luke or Christopher. Like when she slept with Chris and then Sherri got pregnant I was so bummed. It just wouldn't break my heart if she didn't end up with Luke. But here's the thing. ASP doesn't let me decide if I like someone. She changes the character and decides for me. She did the same thing with Dean. She had to make him boring and unlikable so that Jess looked interesting and good and we wanted Rory to be with Jess. She's doing the same thing now. Luke sucks and she's making Chris look all fun and interesting and "white nightish". Up until now Luke has been this sweet guy who would do anything for Lorelai and who was completely non-combative, but now his character has completely changed and he's pushing back marrying the woman of his dreams and he didn't even get her anything for Valentine's Day, and he treated Logan like crap and he's just not a nice person anymore. I realize this whole daughter thing has him in a bind, but I feel like that was just the ploy to get him to start acting like this. Its sad really. Right now on ABC Family the beginning of season 5 is airing where Luke and Lorelai first start dating and they are really cute and it just sucks to see where they've come. I mean really? They don't even act like a couple in love anymore. There just isn't any chemistry. Unlike Chris and Lorelai where all throughout the series no matter what the situation, they've always had chemistry, good or bad. They are electric on-screen. Either way, Scott Patterson and Matt Czuchry have both signed their respective contracts for next season, so I'm guessing its not over for either couple and Logan probably isn't going to London. Sucks for him, London rocks. By the way, that slutty bridesmaid, Walker, was on Conviction the other night. That is a good show. I'm sure I'll get around to it on here eventually. Anyway, I guess what I'm saying is, I ultimately don't care who Lorelai ends up with, as long as its Luke or Chris and not someone else or no one. And I will be upset if Rory ends up not with Logan. I think they challenge each other in a really good way.

Okay, how cute were Lane and Zach in the last episode? So precious!! I really liked what happened even though it was kind of out of the blue. I think they are so adorable together, but um, who knew that the actress that plays Lane is 33? What the...? Yeah. Anyway, that is a really good thing thats going on right now.

I really wish there were more fun town things happening again. There haven't been any town meetings or festivals or anything that feels like the fun, upbeat Gilmore Girls that I used to love. The one with the Fesitval of Living Pictures is my favorite of all time I think. But I just want to see more of Taylor, Miss Patty, Babette, Kirk, etc. GG get quirky again. I feel like GG is doing sort of the opposite of GA in that GA is sort of at a stand still. We go through whole episodes and nothing happens. Do I still laugh? Sometimes. Are the characters still good? That's debatable, but ultimately, I'll finish an hour and try to remember what happened, and its basically nothing. I'm guessing it has something to do with the fact that they decided to have 27 episodes in a season. In GG, it seems the complete opposite. Aside from the fact that I feel like I get a new episode once every 2 months, it seems like every episode is jam-packed with events. Not that that's such a bad thing, I much prefer it to nothing happening, but its almost too much sometimes. Maybe once I just want an episode that at the end I'm not like "holy ****", and maybe instead I'm just like "that was nice". It's just a thought.

So yeah, there's my thoughts on the season since the reconciliation I guess. If I weighed in on that, it would take up 5 pages, so I'm just not gonna go there. So, new episode tomorrow. Can't wait!
